ACTION ALERT!
Help Save the Historic
Hamline Playground Building

Hamline
Playground Building,
1564 Lafond Avenue
This small but majestic
stone-cut art deco
building was designed by
Clarence "Cap"
Wigington, the
first black municipal
architect in the U.S.
Its exterior is pink
Kasota limestone and was
built under the Works
Progress Administration
(WPA). The cornerstone
on the northwest corner
of the building
proclaims the date 1938.
The City of Saint Paul
is currently considering
two options for this
building:
1.) Find a private
developer to
renovate/use the
building
2.) Demolish and
reprogram space for
community use
